Ventnor Hammer Leaders to Close Gap at Top of Division One
Ventnor produced another outstanding performance to dispatch leaders Sarisbury Athletic in convincing style in Saturday’s Southern Premier League Division One clash at Allotment Road.
The 110-run win was Ventnor’s sixth successive victory, moving Ben Woodhouse’s side into title contention with three matches left.
Batting first, the visitors lost Dineth Thimodya early, but Josh Carpenter (41) and a fifth-wicket stand of 68 between Will Mew (59, five fours and five sixes) and Alex Stogdon (28) led a recovery from 68-4. Late contributions from Archie Lucy (24), Charlie Calloway (15) and Thomas Southcott (11*) pushed the total to 211 all out.
In reply, Archie Lucy removed Tom Morton and Ricky Rawlins before Thimodya and George Watts struck further blows. From 32-4, Sarisbury collapsed under sustained pressure. Dan Cox (3-27), Calloway (1-13) and Stogdon (1-6) joined Lucy (3-15) to dismiss the hosts for just 101.

Maiden Century for Short but Ventnor Seconds Defeated
Ventnor II lost by two wickets to Bramshaw in a fluctuating Division 2B match at Steephill.
Reduced to 63-7, skipper Ben Davies and Ethan Short produced a remarkable rescue partnership of 162. Short struck his maiden century (101 from 87 balls, eight fours, five sixes) while Davies made a patient 50. Ventnor closed on 225-7.
Bramshaw’s chase was steadied by skipper Tom Arnold (70). Despite wickets for Chris Russell, Kevin Cooper and a late burst from Russell and Short, the visitors got home with 17 balls to spare.

Big Win for Third Team
Ventnor III beat Wight Whizzers by 112 runs in Island League Division One.
Skipper Gary Legg led with 87, supported by James Curtis (28) and Harrison McQuillan (23) in a total of 195-8.
The Ventnor attack bowled out the opposition for 83, with Jackson Parker taking three wickets, and Curtis, McQuillan and Rafe Hawkins two each.
Defeat for Fourth Team at Newport
Ventnor IV lost by seven wickets to Newport II in Island League Division Two at Newclose.
Harry Charlesworth top scored with 17 in Ventnor’s 94 all out. Lucas Cotton took two wickets, but Newport eased to victory.
Another Ton for Short on President’s Day
Ethan Short capped a memorable weekend by scoring another century, his second in as many days, in Sunday’s President’s Day match.
The 23-year-old struck 110 (twelve fours, six sixes) as the President’s XI won by 12 runs.

Ventnor Best for Watts in Last Gasp Win
Ventnor clinched a fifth successive Southern Premier League victory on Saturday after a dramatic finish against Totton & Eling at Steephill.
Chasing 244, Ventnor were second favourites when their ninth wicket fell with 30 runs required. Number eight George Watts, however, struck an unbeaten 45 to win the match, supported by Ollie Morgan (9*). The pair scrambled four singles in the final over to seal victory.
Earlier, Dineth Thimodya (78, five sixes) and Henry Edwards (44, seven fours and two sixes) added 70 for the third wicket, while Will Mew made 20.
Totton & Eling’s 243-7 was anchored by Joe Baker’s unbeaten 103. Thimodya (3-38) and Watts (2-44) led the Ventnor attack.

This win lifted Ben Woodhouse’s side into second place in Division One, ahead of a clash with league leaders Sarisbury Athletic on Saturday.
Calloway Hits 73 but Ventnor Lose at Winton
Hugh Calloway struck a fluent 73 (seven fours, three sixes) as Ventnor II made 230-9 against Winton. Ben Attrill (25) and Toby Noyes (31) also contributed.
Ethan Short’s destructive new-ball spell reduced the hosts to 14-3, but Nineham’s 86 inspired a recovery. Winton secured a three wicket win with more than ten overs to spare.
Ventnor remain fourth in Division 2B with four games to play.

Ten Wicket Win for Ventnor Fourth Team
In Island League Division 2, Ventnor IV thrashed Shanklin & Godshill III by ten wickets at Arreton.
Adam Goulding hit 57 (ten fours and a six) and Jess Glover 28 as Ventnor chased down 109 with ease. Earlier, David Paul, Matteo Burgess and Wilf Sutton each claimed two wickets.

Ventnor Women Second After Ten Wicket Win
Ventnor Women beat Arreton by ten wickets in Wednesday’s league match at Steephill.
Emma Bruce (3-10), Amelia Cresswell (2-5) and Carley Dingle (2-9) bowled out the visitors for 91. In reply, Gemma Woodford (41) and Dingle (31) saw Ventnor home.
The result keeps Ventnor in second place.
Friendlies
Ventnor III lost by five wickets at Porchfield. Sean Turner (53), James Curtis (46) and Ben Fry (28) lifted the total to 194, but Spooner’s 74 won the game for the hosts.
In an Under 13 clash with New Forest side Calmore, Ventnor won by five runs. Tom Noyes (33), Lucas Cotton (30), Toby Morgan (21) and Isaac Borman (21) helped set 151-3. Calmore finished on 146-8, with Will Kent taking a match-winning 5-13.

Thimodya Inspires Fine Away Win
A brilliant unbeaten innings of 140 from Dineth Thimodya, his sixth century across all formats this season, led Ventnor to a fourth successive victory at Hook & Newnham Basics on Saturday.
The hard-fought two wicket win with an over to spare took Ben Woodhouse’s side to third place in Division 1 of the Southern Premier League with five matches remaining.
Chasing 266-8 (George Watts 3-45, Ollie Morgan 2-57, Dan Cox 2-49), Ventnor were in trouble at 124-5. The hosts could not dislodge Thimodya, however, who blasted 14 fours and 6 sixes in a dominant 138-ball knock. Josh Carpenter (32) and Alex Stogdon (18) offered support before Charlie Calloway (11) and Archie Lucy (5*) saw the Islanders home in a tense finish.

Late Drama as Ventnor Defeat Hythe & Dibden
Ventnor’s second team snatched a three wicket win in dramatic style against Hythe & Dibden at Steephill.
The visitors posted 225-9 in a rain-reduced 37-over contest (Yeo 98; Kevin Cooper 3-32). Chasing, Ventnor required 98 from the last ten overs.
Martin Blackman (70, nine fours, two sixes) kept them in touch, supported by Ben Davies (29), Kevin Cooper (37) and Jack Powell (22). The game was settled by Aussie Ethan Short, who smashed 33 from 12 balls, sealing victory with a huge six over mid-off from the penultimate delivery.

Sanyal Hits Fine Century in 131-Run Victory
Souvik Sanyal struck an unbeaten 105 from 85 balls to inspire Ventnor III to a 131-run win over Ryde II in Island League Division One.
Batting at number five, Sanyal’s century (15 fours, one six) lifted Ventnor to 222-5. Ben Fry (40) and Rafe Hawkins (21) also contributed.
Ryde were bowled out for 91, with Sean Turner, Sam Read, Rafe Hawkins and James Curtis taking two wickets each.

Fourth Team Defeated at Freshwater
Freshwater beat Ventnor IV by 101 runs in Island League Division Two at Arreton.
The West Wight side made 190-8 (George Charlesworth 2-33) before bowling Ventnor out for 89.

175th Anniversary Game – Last Gasp Ventnor Beat MCC!
Ventnor welcomed MCC to Steephill on Sunday as part of the club’s 175th anniversary celebrations.
MCC posted 233, recovering from 113-7 after Archie Lucy (4-18) ripped through their top order. Roberts (47) helped lift the total.
Ventnor’s reply was led by Dineth Thimodya (56), Dan Cox (73) and Will Mew (40). A middle-order collapse left the home side struggling at 209-9, but Ethan Short and Archie Lucy calmly added the 25 runs required to clinch a famous one-wicket win.

Win for Hurricanes Over Cowes
Tom Noyes and Liam Goldsmith both scored 30, with Jess Glover 23* as Ventnor Hurricanes made 149-3 in their Under 15 fixture with Cowes at Steephill.
The visitors replied with 121-6, giving the home side a 28-run victory.

Ventnor Set to Welcome MCC
Ventnor’s 175th anniversary celebrations continue at Steephill this coming Sunday (27 July) with a match against MCC, starting at 11.30am.
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a world-famous club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, St John’s Wood, London. The club governed cricket from 1788 to 1989 and retains considerable global influence.
Ventnor’s side will be captained by Dan Cox, while MCC are likely to field former Ventnor all-rounder Ross Whyte.

No Play Frustration at Steephill
No play was possible at Steephill on Saturday after heavy overnight rain seeped under the pitch covers.
Despite a dry afternoon, Ben Woodhouse’s side were denied a chance to complete a Southern League double over Old Tauntonians & Romsey, who they bowled out for 41 earlier in the season.
The match was officially abandoned after a final inspection at 3.45pm.

Second Team Lose at Burridge
Rain also affected Ventnor seconds’ Division 2B match at Burridge.
In a 37-over game, the visitors slipped to 69-6 before recovering to 143-8. Kevin Cooper (45), Ethan Short (31) and Charlie Turpin (21) were the main scorers.
Thomas Southcott (3 wickets) and Cooper (1) made inroads, but Ben White’s 46* sealed a six-wicket win for Burridge.
Despite a third successive defeat, Ben Davies’s side remain second ahead of Saturday’s home match against bottom-placed Hythe & Dibden.
Heavy Loss for Third Team
Newport I defeated Ventnor III by 166 runs in Island League Division 1 at Brading.
Gareth Bricknell (91) powered Newport to 302-5 (Jackson Parker 3-44, Sean Turner 2-38).
Ventnor replied with Gary Legg (65*) and James Curtis (23), but Aaron Hartup (4-44) ensured dismissal for 136.
Glover and Wells Lead Ventnor to Victory
In the Fred Winter Cup, Ventnor IV beat Cowes by three wickets.
Chasing 190-5, openers Jess Glover (58) and Nathaniel Wells (48) set the platform. After their dismissals, Matteo Burgess (22*) and Jack Charlesworth (6*) shared an unbeaten stand to win with two overs to spare.
Under 15s Bow Out of ECB Cup
Ventnor’s U15s lost by 110 runs to Compton & Chandler’s Ford in the South & West T20 quarter final at Steephill.
The visitors piled on 182 before restricting Ventnor to 71-6 from 20 overs.
Excellent Win for Ventnor Women
Jess Glover (83) and Gemma Woodford (45) helped Ventnor Women post 172-4 against Ryde.
With the ball, Glover and Beki Jude took three wickets each to secure a 45-run win, restricting Ryde to 127-9.

Lucas Cotton hit 24* and took 3-10 as Ventnor U13s beat Shanklin & Godshill by seven wickets at Steephill.

Mia Norris (43) and Emma Bruce (21) starred for Ventnor U15 girls, but Earlswood chased 119 for a seven-wicket win.
WEEK ELEVEN MATCH REPORTS
Third Consecutive Win Keeps Ventnor in Top Four
Ventnor produced a fine all-round display to record a six-wicket victory at Rowledge on Saturday. This third successive win ensured the Islanders retained fourth place in Division One of the Southern Premier League.
Seamer Ollie Morgan impressed with 3-20 for the away side before Dineth Thimodya (2-43) and Chris Russell (2-55) took late order wickets to dismiss the hosts for 208. Archie Lucy and George Watts chipped in with a wicket apiece while wicketkeeper Ben Woodhouse took five catches.
Ventnor’s response saw Dineth Thimodya depart early, and after Josh Carpenter (26) and Hugh Calloway (20) made useful contributions, Dan Cox and Will Mew took centre stage.
Cox continued his outstanding campaign with a splendid 92 (eight fours and two sixes), while Mew struck seven boundaries and a six in an excellent 49-ball 53, his maiden Southern League half century.
Pacing his innings perfectly, all-rounder Cox remained unbeaten as he and Henry Edwards saw their side home with nine balls to spare.

Ventnor Second Team Beaten by Portsmouth
The top two in Hampshire League Division 2B met at Steephill on Saturday and it was Portsmouth II who strengthened their position as leaders with a 43-run success.
Kevin Cooper (4-40) and James Cheek (2-44) were the principal wicket takers for Ventnor as the away side set a target of 247 from 45 overs.
Openers Ben Attrill (26) and Cheek (59) provided a solid base for the run chase, but the quick loss of Martin Blackman (35) and Cooper (29) proved decisive. Ventnor were bowled out for 203, despite Ethan Short finishing unbeaten on 14.

Fourth Team Defeated at Northwood
Ventnor’s fourth team lost by 51 runs to Northwood II in the Fred Winter Cup at Park Road.
Set 231 to win, Ventnor’s spirited reply saw them dismissed for 176. Matteo Burgess top scored with 47, Ali Cotton made 34, and Adam Goulding 29.
Under 13s Lose at Freshwater
Lucas Cotton and Monty Borman both passed 20 for Ventnor in their total of 115, but the hosts won by five wickets in the closing overs.
Friendlies – Teenager Southcott Hits a Terrific Hundred
Ventnor rattled up 308-4 against tourists Earlswood Strollers at Steephill on Sunday.
Highlight of the afternoon was a splendid knock of 101 from young Thomas Southcott, backed up by 89 from Dineth Thimodya and 50 from Archie Lucy.
The visitors replied with 227-7 in the 35-over contest.
Short’s Half Century in Win at Newport
Aussie Ethan Short top scored with 54 in Ventnor’s seven-wicket T20 victory over Newport at Newclose on Thursday, chasing 125.
Ventnor Girls v Earlswood Girls
Mia Norris top scored with 43 as Ventnor’s under-15 girls took on their Earlswood counterparts at Steephill on Monday. The tourists won by eight wickets after successfully chasing a target of 119.
Under 15s Set for ECB Cup Tie
Ventnor’s Under 15 team face Compton & Chandler’s Ford in a South & West quarter final of the ECB Club T20 National Cup.

WEEK TEN MATCH REPORTS
Thimodya and Carpenter Outstanding in Ventnor Victory
A superb double hundred opening partnership of 209 between Dineth Thimodya and 19-year-old Josh Carpenter was the cornerstone of a resounding 62-run win for Ventnor at Waterlooville in Division One of the Southern Premier League on Saturday.
In uncertain weather conditions, which saw the match reduced to 44 overs a side, Thimodya and Carpenter dominated the hosts’ bowling attack.
Ventnor’s Sri Lankan all-rounder struck eleven fours and two sixes in a 136-ball knock of 122, while Carpenter fell just eight runs short of a maiden Ventnor ton with 92 (ten fours from 115 deliveries). Ventnor closed on 253-4.
From a promising 102-2, the bottom-of-the-table home side were eventually dismissed for 191. Ventnor’s bowling attack of George Watts, Archie Lucy, Dan Cox and Thimodya each took two wickets as the visitors moved up to fourth place.

Ventnor Knocked Off Top Spot After Defeat
Ventnor second team’s winning run came to an end at Steephill on Saturday after Cadnam won a rain-affected Hampshire League Division 2B contest by five wickets.
Asked to bat first, skipper Ben Davies (55) and Hugh Calloway (82) led the way as Ventnor posted 199-6 from 45 overs.
Set 158 to win from a weather-adjusted 29 overs, Cadnam raced to 80-1 (Sah 68). Despite Ethan Short taking 3-25, the visitors reached their target with two overs to spare.

Snell Hits 87 in Third Team’s Loss at Northwood
Ventnor’s third eleven faced Northwood’s first team in Island League Division One on Saturday and, despite a spirited performance, were defeated by six wickets at Park Road.
Rob Snell hit fifteen boundaries and a six in an excellent innings of 87, supported by Sean Turner (48) and Charles Andrew (23), as Ventnor set 202.
Northwood’s George Griffith (68) and useful contributions down the order secured victory with 20 balls remaining.

Dobson Hits Maiden Hundred as Fourth Team Win at Westhill
Ventnor’s fourth team captain Nick Dobson had a day to remember in Saturday’s Island League Division 2 encounter against Shanklin & Godshill II.
Batting at number five, Dobson cracked a maiden century, finishing unbeaten on 102 in a total of 197-7.
Dobson then skippered his side to a 35-run win, despite half centuries from Steve Egerton-Read and Max Bushby-Harris. Ali and Lucas Cotton both took three wickets each for Ventnor.

Third Midweek League Win for Ventnor
In the 100 Midweek League, Ventnor convincingly beat Ryde by 72 runs at Steephill.
Kevin Cooper (42) and Ben Fry (27) top scored in the home team’s 152-5 before Toby Noyes and Alfie Toulson each took two wickets as Ryde were dismissed for 80.
Hurricanes Stay Top After Latest Win
Ventnor Hurricanes defeated Ryde Rattlers by nine wickets in the Under 15 League at Steephill to maintain their 100% record.
Chasing 79, Liam Goldsmith (33) and Isaac Borman (30) guided the team to a convincing win inside ten overs.
Friendly Win Over Tourists
Tourists New Ash Green could only manage 70 in reply to Ventnor’s 135-8 (Charlie Calloway 29) in last week’s T20 match at Steephill.
WEEK NINE MATCH REPORTS
Ventnor Shock League Leaders
At Steephill on Saturday, Ventnor pulled off a fine win over top-of-the-table Havant in Division One of the Southern Premier League.
In a match of twists and turns, the home team clinched victory by 13 runs.
Batting first, Ventnor were reduced to 135-8 despite Josh Carpenter (21) and Hugh Calloway (31). A patient half-century from Dan Cox, with support from Charlie Calloway (28) and James Cheek (21), lifted the total to 181.
George Watts struck early in Havant’s reply before an excellent bowling display from Thimodya, Cox, and Charlie Calloway reduced the visitors to 100-7. A 50-run partnership between Hayward and Turner revived their hopes, but late wickets from Archie Lucy and Thimodya sealed a terrific win.

Cooper, Blackman and Short Lead Ventnor to Another Win
The double header between Ventnor and Havant saw the second teams meet at Havant Park in Hampshire League Division 2B.
Ventnor came out comfortable winners by six wickets.
Aussie Ethan Short was the standout bowler with 6-42, as Havant collapsed from 126-2 to 191 all out. Kevin Cooper supported with 3-17.
Ventnor’s reply was led by Cooper (64 from 45 balls, seven fours and three sixes) and Martin Blackman (51 not out), as the team raced to 196-4 inside 29 overs.

Cup Defeat for Gallant Third Team
A youthful Ventnor third team, including six teenagers, put in a strong performance before losing by 32 runs to Newport’s first eleven in a Senior Cup group game at Brading.
Tom Dye (75), Adam Wilson (42) and Max Poynter (37) led Newport to 244-9. Jackson Parker (3-25), Sam Blaize (1-22), Toby Morgan (1-25), and Midhun Devassy (3-54) took wickets for Ventnor.

Ventnor’s fourth team beat Arreton by five wickets in Island League Division 2.

Hadlee Toulson (16) and Josh Andrew (14) top scored in Ventnor Under 11’s 22-run win over Shanklin & Godshill.
Ventnor Old Boy Smashes 266 for Worcester!
Former Ventnor player Adam Hose, son of Jeff Hose, scored a record-breaking 266 for Worcestershire at Hampshire’s Utilita Bowl.
His innings — the highest score by any visiting player at the ground — included 31 fours and seven sixes.

Ventnor Lose in High Scoring Affair
A high scoring Southern Premier League Division One contest at Steephill saw Hambledon beat Ventnor by three wickets.

Ventnor’s Under 15s achieved an excellent win over Ryde in the County Cup Final and will now play the winners of the Hampshire Final.
Tom Noyes (50) and Liam Goldsmith (35) batted superbly to lead their side home by seven wickets in pursuit of Ryde’s 133.
Ventnor Edged Out at Fair Oak
Ventnor fell to a three-wicket loss at Fair Oak in Division One of the Southern Premier League.
After being invited to bat, Ventnor posted 181 thanks to Hugh Calloway (56) and George Watts (30). Earlier contributions came from Josh Carpenter (20), Dan Cox (21), and Henry Edwards (20).

Ventnor clinched a remarkable three-wicket win over Hook & Newnham Basics in Southern Premier League Division One at Steephill.
Chasing 259, Ventnor slumped to 49-5 before Henry Edwards (108 from 71 balls, 18 fours, 2 sixes) and Dan Cox (89 from 138) added 180 for the sixth wicket.
