VENTNOR IN TOP TWO AFTER LATEST WIN

Ventnor’s first team moved into second place in Division One of the Southern Premier League after an excellent 35 run win over 14 times Premier League title winners Havant at Steephill on Saturday 20 June.

Two fine knocks of 73 from Dan Cox and 57 from Sri Lankan Dineth Thimodya led the way while 28 from Alex Stogdon and 25 from young Ian Hailes ensured full batting points as Ben Woodhouse’s side reached 247-7 from their 50 overs.

As Havant replied, Archie Lucy (2-64) and Cox (3-25) made early breakthroughs for Ventnor and with Ethan Short, Thimodya and Hailes also among the wickets, the hosts clinched victory with five overs remaining as the visitors slipped from 156-6 to 212 all out.

The Club wish to thank Tony and Sally Thatcher for sponsoring the game.

DERBY DAY WIN FOR SHANKLIN & GODSHILL

Shanklin & Godshill’s first team defeated Ventnor’s second eleven by 95 runs in last Saturday’s Hampshire League derby at Westhill.

Olly Niemiec scored a terrific 119 for the home side which effectively took the match away from Ventnor. The hosts, for whom Ollie Pease (42) and George Niemiec (41) were also among the runs, comfortably defended a challenging total of 262-6 to dismiss the visitors for 163, with young Tom Noyes (33), Aaron Hartup (28), Toby Noyes (27) and skipper Ben Davies (26) the main contributors. Harry Moore took 3-34.

Monty Borman and Ed Newton top scored with 22 runs each as Ventnor reached 120-4 against Shanklin & Godshill in Monday’s Under 13 League match at Westhill.

The visitors produced an impressive bowling display to dismiss the home team for just 43, with Billy Peace taking 3-14 and Reggie Peace 2-2.

UNDER 15’S WIN CLOSE CONTEST WITH COWES

Monty Borman struck a decisive 30 runs as Ventnor achieved a two run win at Cowes in last week’s Under 15 League match.

In a close contest, Ventnor did well to defend their score of 117-6 with Isaac Borman the pick of the attack with 2-15.

SUNDAY FRIENDLY LOSS FOR VENTNOR

Dineth Thimodya struck an eye-catching 81 for Ventnor but was unable to prevent an 100 run loss against Wight Whizzers at Steephill on Sunday.
