Ventnor Hammer Leaders to Close Gap at Top of Division One
Ventnor produced another outstanding performance to dispatch leaders Sarisbury Athletic in convincing style in Saturday’s Southern Premier League Division One clash at Allotment Road.
The 110-run win was Ventnor’s sixth successive victory, moving Ben Woodhouse’s side into title contention with three matches left.
Batting first, the visitors lost Dineth Thimodya early, but Josh Carpenter (41) and a fifth-wicket stand of 68 between Will Mew (59, five fours and five sixes) and Alex Stogdon (28) led a recovery from 68-4. Late contributions from Archie Lucy (24), Charlie Calloway (15) and Thomas Southcott (11*) pushed the total to 211 all out.
In reply, Archie Lucy removed Tom Morton and Ricky Rawlins before Thimodya and George Watts struck further blows. From 32-4, Sarisbury collapsed under sustained pressure. Dan Cox (3-27), Calloway (1-13) and Stogdon (1-6) joined Lucy (3-15) to dismiss the hosts for just 101.
Next Match: Fair Oak visit Steephill on Saturday (12.30pm), followed by trips to Hambledon and Havant for a potential title decider.

Bramshaw’s chase was steadied by skipper Tom Arnold (70). Despite wickets for Chris Russell, Kevin Cooper and a late burst from Russell and Short, the visitors got home with 17 balls to spare.
